the explosive child: a facilitated reading
In this 5-part workshop, participants will engage in a facilitated reading of Dr. Ross Greene’s groundbreaking book The Explosive Child: A New Approach for Understanding and Parenting Easily Frustrated, Chronically Inflexible Children, which has been a game-changer for parents and caregivers of children who have developed challenging behaviors. The hallmark strategy Greene outlines, known as collaborative and proactive solutions (formerly known as collaborative problem solving), fosters the use of empathy and curiosity to understand the meaning behind a child’s unexpected behaviors - typically a combination of what Greene refers to as “lagging skills and unsolved problems.” Once these lagging skills and unsolved problems are identified, participants will learn how to shift their parenting from unilaterally imposing rules and consequences to collaboratively developing solutions that consider the child’s perspective, while also developing their ability to self-advocate and problem-solve.
During THIS WORKSHOP, participants will:
Shift thinking about children’s behaviors that they find challenging or unexpected
Learn to identify and even predict patterns of behavior
Identify children’s lagging skills and unsolved problems
Learn to problem solve with children using curiosity and empathy
Help children develop self-advocacy and problem-solving skills.
